Implementing more propping in the frame will allow images to look less static and give diners more perspective. You can utilize props in the hero shot, too. Use side dishes and utensils to close gaps, but make sure they don’t overtake the table. It should look like a waiter/waitress laid out the table naturally."

"1. PERSPECTIVE MISSED-- Single-dish menu items should be shot from a more natural perspective. Ideally, the angle should not exceed 60 degrees. 2. HERO SHOT MISSED-- Make sure you are not laying the dishes symmetrically. Use side dishes and utensils to close gaps, but make sure they don’t overtake the table. Dishes should look like a server just placed them on the table, naturally. 3. Images look flat. Please make sure there is enough contrast. 4. Next time, try to include props such as utensils, napkins, drinks, side dishes, etc to communicate size and proportion. Implementing more propping in the frame will allow images to look less static and give diners more perspective."

"1. INCONSISTENT CROPPING-- please make sure you are maintaining a consistent 50/50 ratio (food to background) in every shot. This is especially important if there are large and small sized dishes. Example: the Fiesta Tots have a proper crop, but the Steak Crunchers are too tiny in the frame. We need to make sure the food is filling the same amount of frame across the board. 2. The only image that should be shot from completely overhead is the hero shot. The Crazy Kale Salad was shot from overhead."

Next time, if you are photographing two separate restaurants, make sure you get a hero shot for each one. 2. Please do not use flash. We prefer natural lighting. 4. Moving forward, please watch your exposures. Food is looking a little bright and there is a loss of detail in some highlights. We want to make sure that all of the food is easily distinguishable."
