Ria Tafani's passion for photography began when she received a camera as a high school gift. This led her to the Rochester Institute of Technology where she focused on advertising and architectural photography, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree. Known for her stunning compositions and rich detail, Ria has photographed hotels for a marketing agency in Toronto; properties for realtors, builders, and architects; homes and gardens for landscape designers. A much sought-after corporate event photographer, she has photographed the President of University of Rochester Joel Seligman, Donna Brazil (political analyst who is Vice Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee), Sara Weddington (Attorney, Roe vs. Wade), Cecil Richards (Activist), Clare Coleman (CEO and President of NFPRHA), Susan Cain (Author), Nelson Lauver (Motivational speaker syndicated broadcaster), Dana Gioia (poet, Chairman of national endowment for the arts), Mike Lyons (Director of Analytics at Buffalo Bills), Tamika Nurse ( CEO, IT Girl Industries), Angela Shelton (screen writer), Gail Sheehy (Journalist) and President Charles Plosser (CEO, Federal Reserve Bank Philadelphia) just to name a few. Ria is a gifted candid and portrait artist, and has also earned recognition for her wedding and maternity photos. Ria’s eclectic career path has allowed her to assume many creative roles, from production coordinator in television and assistant wardrobe stylist and prop master for commercial shoots, to managing a commercial studio in Upstate New York. In recognition of her artistry, Ria was selected to participate in the International Artist Residency Program’s 2-month placement in Martignano, Italy during the summer of 2011, where her work was exhibited in various venues. She also makes time to put her creativity to work for the community. Over the years she has donated her paintings, organization skills and photography talents to the Genesee Center for the Arts, Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester, Autism Up, Geva Theatre, Make a Wish Foundation, Hunter’s Hope, and the Magnificat Catholic Ministry for Women. Today, Ria runs her own photography business and is still often called to assist top photographers across Upstate New York as well as from NYC, Houston and Atlanta. Always eager to learn the latest in photo technology, Ria does work for Pictometry, where she works with the Geospatial Image Processing team to verify image accuracy and perform extensive testing on proprietary aerial software.
