Akeem Pina is a 21st century visual artist specializing in portrait photography. His roots stem from the Cape Verde Islands of Africa, having both parents emigrating to the US in 1975. A modest model and photographer duo, his parents Elisabete and Danoelo both dedicated 25 years to Polaroid assembling cameras and creating instant film. This Polaroid world Akeem was born into would facilitate to have his life captured on film and discover photography at a young age. In 2011, Akeem graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Studio Art. Later that year, while traveling to California for his birthday, Akeem visited San Francisco for two days and left inspired enough to move just four months later, exploring the city through photography and art, eventually making it his home. In 2015, craving more experience, Akeem decided to move to Paris, France. Being immersed in a new country with a different language served many challenges, but through those challenges, Akeem was able to develop his craft more deeply, focus on his personal style and begin to work professionally and solely as a photographer. Uniplaces hired him to photograph apartments and homes all throughout the city of lights. With this, he learned Paris well and created his own side business photographing tourists, capturing their special moments with iconic French art and landmarks as backdrops. After a year abroad, Akeem moved back to San Francisco where he lived for another 3 years, further developing his business. Dreaming bigger and following the sun, Akeem moved to Los Angeles to create art full-time to establish a promising position in the world of photography.
