Even though December and other winter months are not a popular choice for weddings, they are a great time to capture engagement photos. The season allows you to create your own winter wonderland and show off your winter duds. It gives couples a variety of prop and clothing options to play around with, and the photogenic element of snow provides amazing scenery. So if you’re brave enough to face the cold temperatures, there are plenty of ways to showcase a fantastic winter engagement photo shoot.
A Winter Escape
Whether you own your own cabin or need to look for a great weekend getaway, a secluded venue is an excellent background for an engagement photo shoot. It creates a romantic atmosphere for the bridal couple. So cozy up next to the fire and let your love for one another keep you warm.
Typically, couples try to avoid using the same venue for both their engagement photos and their wedding. However, depending upon the location, sometimes using the same location can add a romantic feel from a different aspect. This is especially true for winter engagement shoots for those having an outdoor spring or summer wedding.
A Nice Night In
You don’t always have to brave the cold for a great winter scene. Snuggle up in a cozy blanket, have breakfast in bed, or wear warm fuzzy pajamas. Sometimes the best location is a personal one. Remember that not everyone’s winter wonderland is outside in the snow.
Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow
Adding a romantic or fun vibe to the photo shoot is easy – especially with a fresh layer of snow. Remember the best photos are natural. So get back in touch with nature. Laugh and enjoy the snow. Play in it. Go ice skating, build a snowman, or have a snow ball fight. There are plenty of fun winter activities you can utilize.
Enjoy a Fire
Whether you have a fireplace at home or are just choosing an engagement shoot location with one, a nice fire sets a romantic tone for your photos. Wear a fun sweater, enjoy a hot cup of cocoa together, or cozy up together in your winter finery. You can be cute and sweet, or romantic and formal. Whatever you decide to do, just make sure to have fun.
One of the best aspects of winter is Christmas. With the lights, tree, and merriment, everyone has their favorite holiday past times. Find a fun holiday activity to capture in your engagement shoot, like decorating the tree or kissing under the mistletoe. It’s amazing how the Christmas spirit can lead to amazing engagement photography.
Figuring out how to plan your December engagement photo shoot is just as simple as planning one in July. You have to think about the weather, props, attire, and multiple other details. Don’t stress yourself out by thinking about the things you can’t do. Instead, think about the things you can do, like ice skating or a romantic winter getaway for you and your significant other. It may not be the most sought after engagement photo season, but winter shoots can offer outstanding photographic results.
